Bowies
“Liminal”
Not the calm. Not the storm. The moment between
A poetic synthesis of material and meaning - "Liminal" captures that fragile instant between tranquility and awakening.
This 19-inch bowie features a 13-inch mosaic
Damascus blade of tiger stripe bamboo. This bamboo forest is from the perspective of what an animal would see. Evoking the moment between stillness and movement -where a stalking tiger's stripes blend into the flowing forest, with the prey not being able to tell the difference between the two.
The water-ripple Damascus fittings echo the quiet tension of a pond's surface, accented with 24K gold lily pads and stainless stippled spacers.
The handle, inspired by traditional Chinese jade carving, retains its natural bark to form carved lily pads floating above the internal white fossil ivory depicting the calm water of a pond, which is gently interrupted by the falling of cherry blossoms and petals from a nearby tree - a serene reflection of nature's fleeting balance.
"Day of the River"
Inspired by a song from Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi. This piece takes influence from many different cultures including Japan, China, And even using an ancient Korean Jewellery technique.
The blade features a mosaic damascus with loose forms of dragons flying throughout. Back bar was designed to aid in the feeling of being immersed in a river scene. Reminiscent of the chatter of mosquitoes and river life.
The carving tells the ancient tale of the legend of the koi fish. After a hundred years of attempting to climb a giant waterfall at the end of the yellow river, one koi fish finally made it to the top and was recognized by the gods for this amazing feat of perseverance and was rewarded by being turned into a golden dragon. The ends of the guard show the transition of the koi gaining his golden dragon wings.
The other side also features a carved flowing river scene and piled up rocks along the river banks throughout the piece.
